Eurodram is a European theatre translation network covering European, Mediterranean and Central Asian languages. The network is organised into about 30 language-based committees. This is the website of Eurodram’s English-language committee.
Eurodram’s main objective is promote contemporary plays from across the wider European area to theatre professionals and theatre audiences.
The plays are selected through two biennial competitions:
- In even-numbered years, the English-language committee selects three contemporary European plays originally written in English.
- In odd-numbered years, the English-language committee selects three English translations of contemporary European plays originally written in a language other than English.
For the 2023/24 season, we select three European plays written in English. Plays in this round are selected from shortlists of a number of existing British playwriting competitions. Selections will be announced in March of 2024.
For the 2024/25 season we will invite submissions of English translations of European plays written in languages other than English. Please click here for submission instructions. Submissions will be due Jan 1, 2025.
These submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
- The quality of the play.
- The quality of the translation.
- ‘Producibility’ – i.e. the suitability of the translated play for an English speaking audience
